Design handoff
The moment design work moves to development: the specs, assets, and intent a developer needs to build what was designed.
Design handoff is where intent gets lost. The design file knows every color, spacing value, and font weight, but the developer sees a picture and rebuilds it by inspection. The gap between those two is where most design drift starts.
Good handoffs make the design's values explicit instead of visual: tokens, measurements, and states a developer can read rather than guess. The next step some teams take is verifying the handoff, comparing the built page back against the design to confirm nothing got lost in translation.
